Notes I would add to this article
- This article is not intended to deal with puppies that play bite CHILDREN.
- Children cannot train dogs and should not be responsible for teaching a puppy not to play bite.
- With children I mostly teach redirection and encourage children to use large toys which keep their hands away from the puppies mouth
- When supervising children you can make the "ouch" sound instead of the child doing it.
- Your "ouch" sounds should be harsh enough to differentiate from your normal voice.
- Use extreme caution when socializing your dog with other dogs. I personally would allow my dog to play with puppies of the same age, NOT adult dogs. You just don't know if another adult dog will be too aggressive.
